Hi, I’m Maria. I like to write for and about all things design.
An interior designer by training, I began my professional career telling physical stories through space. Today, I work mostly in digital environments, crafting user-centric copy for apps and websites.
How does an interior designer turn into a writer, you might wonder? I took a break from my job as a designer in Vancouver, Canada and moved to the Netherlands in 2013 to pursue a master's degree in poetry (one of my first passions). While writing my thesis I joined interior design magazine Frame as an in-house editor, an opportunity that allowed me to put both my design and writing background to the test.
A few years later I decided to switch to freelancing, a decision which helped me diversify my portfolio and further develop my skills as an editor, copywriter and content designer. My clients include German sportswear giant Adidas, American social network Nextdoor, European boutique hotelier Sircle Collection, Dutch interior design brands Marcel Wanders and Moooi, and international lifestyle and design publications Azure, Darc and Nuvo, and Frame. Today, in addition to freelancing with various clients, I work as a content designer for the .com Lower Funnel team at Adidas crafting the voice of the brand’s Checkout experience.
